Paint Trends To Watch in 2018

We’re still in the first month of 2018 and you know what that means, resolutions are either still going strong or merely a distant memory. Whether your resolution was to give your home or commercial space some needed TLC, nothing says new better than a fresh coat of paint! A new year brings new opportunities to follow trends and give the interior and/or exterior of your home a face lift. However, when it comes to what’s popular in the moment it can be hard to choose a colour that has the perfect balance of trendy and functional (aka something that won’t get old fast)!

Let’s say that the IT colour of the new year happens to be bright magenta (don’t worry that’s not one of our picks), sure, your home would be modern but how would the colour transition over a long period of time? It doesn’t mean you have to be boring, you just must have some foresight! For this reason, we’ve done the grunt work for you, turning to colour experts to highlight the projected colour trends of 2018. Here are our top 5 personal favourites:

  1. Black is the new Black

Black has been dominating household trends recently – From kitchens to bedrooms there are so many way to add this edgy hue to your walls. A personal favourite is black bathroom accent wall. Painting only one wall gives the space both an ultra-cool vibe while not closing the space off and making it feel small (an accent wall actually helps make rooms feel bigger). Black also pairs really nicely with gold accents or wood furnishings.

  2. Be Bold

Painting room accents such as fireplaces a bold colour can really bring a pop to a room, without being too much.  The best part about this is that because it is such an isolated area you can get it repainted easily whenever the trends change. To give character to the front of your house the doors is the perfect accent piece.

  3. Bring the Outside in

2018 is all about finding your inner zen, enter calming greens and blues. The best thing about nature is that it comes packed with both the bold and the muted so there is something for everyone’s liking.

Sage is supposed to be the big “it” colour. Why? The muted green hue is soft but anything but boring. White and beige are shaking in their boots with the popularity of this new neutral (see below for example).

  4. Make a Statement with Painted Cabinets

The easiest way to give your kitchen a face lift is by painting your cabinets. To learn more about how we accomplish this process check out our cabinet refurnishing post.

  5. Accent Walls are STILL in

Not that accent walls ever went anywhere but they are certainly making a come back if they did. Accent walls are great for the people who like to change it up every once in a while but also don’t want an entire room painted, let’s just say, navy blue. It adds a great touch to a room and often lengthens the appearance of the rooms size. Wallpaper also makes a great accent to an otherwise neutral room.
