10 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Painter

If your office space is in need of new paint job, hiring just any old painter wont do.

Before hiring a painter you must ensure they are fully qualified and able to perform the work according to your needs. With this in mine, we have compiled a few questions that will easily weed out any Victoria office painting service that is not 100% qualified to handle your painting job

1. Are the painters fully insured?

Painters will often say they are fully insured to get a contract. Make sure they provide a certificate of Liability Insurance and proof of Workers Compensation coverage as very often contractors will pay their painters as subs to avoid paying for insurance.

2. Do they have references?

Any established painting contractor will have many satisfied customers. Ask to see written testimonials and better yet, ask for references with full contact information from both recent and older customers.

3. Do they have experience with Victoria Office Painting?

Different kinds of contractors specialize in different kinds of painting. Exterior commercial or large industrial painting companies will not know the special circumstances involved in painting office space. The everyday routine of the work space should be respected.

4. Do they use green paints?

These days, consumers have lots of choices. Paint manufacturers produce green zero VOC paints that will not harm the indoor air quality of the building. Make sure your contractor is well versed and knowledgeable about the latest green coatings available.

5. Can they help with color?

Branding considerations aside, there are certain colors that will make an office space more of a comfortable work environment for employees. Choosing the right colour for your office space can ultimately lead to a more productive and creative workforce. Make sure to also ask if they have a color consultant that can aide with choosing the right combination of colors?

6. Is there a warranty?

When searching for a painter make sure to ask for a workmanship warranty to guarantee they stand behind their work. Will they follow manufacturer’s recommendations? If they don’t, the product warranty is voided. Even more, there are painting companies that will come back to do touch-ups and even offer a maintenance service.

7. Can they work after hours or weekends?

The least interruption to the work day routine happens when the work is done during evenings or weekends. Does the contractor have enough of a personnel pool and trained crew that they are available to work weekends?

8. Who will move the furniture?

Being an office space, there might be a lot of furniture that needs to be moved such as heavy filing cabinets, bookcases, combination desks etc. Hiring a company that will move that furniture and place it back before work starts is important. If the move is major, asking if the company has contacts with office moving companies is important.

9. Will they cover floors and furniture?

Carpeted floors have to be protected and furniture needs to be covered and computer equipment has to be protected from all the dust created from preparation work and sanding. Consideration also needs to be given to working around wires and network cables.

10. Who will clean up?

Office buildings usually have their regular cleaning staff that take care of the facility every night. When a major project such as painting or wall repairs happens, the mess can be significant. That type of workload can be very taxing to usually very busy cleaning personnel this is why having it in writing that the paint contractor will clean all construction mess is a must.
